Unico Solar Investors

Unico Solar Investors was a Seattle-based company founded in 2017 by Adam Knoff and Brett Phillips. As a developer and operator of solar energy systems, the company focused on delivering clean, affordable solar power options primarily for businesses and commercial and industrial property owners. Unico Solar Investors served as an independent power provider, developing solar energy portfolios for its own real estate holdings and for third-party clients, aiming to overcome customer adoption barriers and simplify the process of purchasing zero-emissions electricity.

The company’s goal was to provide customers with affordable, predictable, zero-emissions electricity at discounted rates compared to utility rates. Unico Solar Investors was well-known for its long-term partnership with Excelsior Energy Capital to build, own, and operate an expected 250 MW of commercial and industrial solar projects. A notable project involved equipping the Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle with 1.2 megawatts of onsite solar arrays to support its goal of becoming the world’s first Net Zero Carbon certified arena. Unico Solar Investors was acquired by Altus Power America on December 20, 2023.
