GOplot is an R package designed specifically for the visualization of biological data. Its primary purpose is to combine and integrate high-dimensional expression data with the results of a functional analysis, such as Gene Ontology (GO) enrichment. The package allows scientists to quickly examine large datasets, expose trends, and find patterns and correlations, helping them confirm or falsify hypotheses. By providing novel, original, high-quality plots, GOplot aims to improve the understanding of omics data and aid the communication of biologically relevant findings.

The package takes the output of any general enrichment analysis and generates a variety of plots at different levels of detail, including bar plots (using the GOBar function), bubble plots, and circle plots. This allows users to move from a general overview, which identifies the most enriched categories, to a more detailed view displaying information for specific genes and terms. The package integrates quantitative data like expression levels (logFC), term significance (adjusted p-value), and z-scores, allowing for a deeper, more comprehensive insight into the underlying biological processes.
