The company’s innovative core product is the Luci inflatable solar light, which uniquely combines LED, solar, and inflatable technologies into a durable, portable, and affordable clean energy source. Originally conceived after the 2010 Haiti earthquake by founder John Salzinger, the products—which have expanded to include solar string lights, mobile chargers, headlamps, and the Viri line of solar energy storage tiles—provide easy, sustainable illumination and power solutions for outdoor enthusiasts, emergency preparedness, and people in developing countries without access to the electricity grid.

MPOWERD employs a unique, socially conscious business model designed to maximize global impact. By leveraging strong retail sales in developed nations, they create an ecosystem that offsets manufacturing costs, allowing them to offer their products affordably in emerging markets and for disaster relief. Through their “Give Luci Program” and partnerships with over 700 NGO and charity partners, MPOWERD distributes lights and power to those in need, having impacted over 3.9 million lives and averted over 3.2 million tons of CO2 emissions to date. In June 2024, the company was acquired by BioLite, joining forces to amplify their collective impact and product offerings in off-grid cooking, charging, and lighting.
